As you can see from the sunshine here, my car is in full sun, and the carport provides no sun cover. Now I have installed the shade cloth (shown here before it was completed), the cars are really cool. Notice the interesting location of the last column in the carport - preventing the garage from being used for cars. I had to run a steel rope from the closest post to the edge of the garage, as the farthest post is in the wrong place.
